Gala has breathed new life into her classic 1996 hit “Freed From Desire,” releasing an updated version through Ministry Of Sound and B1 Recordings. Listen to the new rendition below.
In her own words, Gala shares: “‘Freed From Desire’ is a song about challenging the status quo and staying true to oneself. Inspired by a Buddhist idea, the lyrics question the endless pursuit of material desires and encourage us to focus on personal principles and true freedom. From the start, I felt it had a powerful message that would resonate with people.”
Over the years, Gala has remained deeply invested in the song’s impact. “I’ve worked hard to keep ‘Freed From Desire’ alive and meaningful, not through commercial efforts but because people have made it their own, singing it in stadiums, at protests, in LGBTQ+ celebrations, and sharing it worldwide with DJs.”
This re-recording represents more than reclaiming rights—it’s about reigniting the song’s message for today’s generation. “With new generations questioning the pursuit of material wealth, I feel more in tune with the song’s essence than ever before,” Gala adds.
