TIKTOK REPORTEDLY LIMITING MUSIC ON PLATFORM

TIKTOK REPORTEDLY LIMITING MUSIC ON PLATFORM TO TEST ITS “IMPORTANCE” TO USERS
TikTok is testing the popularity of music on the platform by restricting the number of songs that can be used in videos. The experiment is currently being carried out in Australia and will limit content creators’ access to certain songs.
TikTok told Bloomberg that this is a scheduled test to analyze how sounds are accessed and added to videos, and to improve the Sounds Library. No specific genres or artists have been mentioned, but the music industry is reportedly concerned about the potential impact on revenue.
Music right holders are reportedly in disagreement with the experiment, while TikTok views music as just one aspect of the overall entertainment experience. If the test results show that users are not interested in the music on the app, TikTok may reduce the amount it pays to music right holders.
